Louisa Spahr Kohler Dies At 82 In Postville

Louisa Spahr Kohler born April 4 1869 in Elgin died September 26 1951 at Postville hospital at eighty two. She married Fred E Kohler February 21 1892 and had four children two died in infancy leaving daughter Florence and son Walter. She was active in social affairs and a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron. Services were held at Muehlethaler funeral home with burial in Elgin cemetery. casket bearers included Mel Kohler Earl and L L Kiple Mervin Hunsberger Harold Kimball and Jerome Yearous.

Miss Joanne Maxine Jennings daughter of Mr and Mrs Floyd Jennings and Bernard Dale Timm of Davenport were married at St John s Methodist chapel on Saturday Sept 29 The bride wore a white satin Chantilly lace gown with a stand up collar fitted sleeves and full skirt She carried white rose bouquet A reception for about 260 guests from Davenport Rock Island Moline Quincy St Louis and northern Iowa followed The bride a Davenport high school graduate has worked in St Louis the past two years Mr Timm a Davenport graduate enlisted in the Navy in 1950 and is stationed in the Caribbean area He will return after the wedding trip Mrs Jennings mother Bertha Hofer Wa d en a and her husband are from Elgin and Wadena respectively.

Grethers Named Methodist Family of the Year

The Volga Methodist Church and the Grether family Mr and Mrs Leo Grether and their children were selected as the Methodist Family of the Year for the Dubuque District. Mrs Emma Ryser of Chelsea Oklahoma died at home at eighty six after years confined to bed and wheelchair due to a broken hip She was born near Brainard and lived near Dunham's Grove before moving to Chelsea Her survivors include three sons two daughters a brother and many grandchildren Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in Chelsea Cemetery burial followed in the Chelsea cemetery
