Elgin traveled to Monona last Friday and won 25 to 0 with no standout stars. The locals posted an 11 of 14 passing mark, a strong high school showing. Iowa's index of prices received by farmers for all farm products rose 2 points in the month ending Sept 15, reaching 288 per cent of the 1910-14 base. The gain came mainly from a 1 cent per bushel rise in corn, with higher beef prices offset by lower calf and lamb values. The livestock and products index stayed at 298 per cent as dairy, poultry, and egg gains did not offset the steady meat-animal index.
Alvina Anna Frieden born May 11 1880 in West Bend died Sept 29 at home near Elgin after a long illness. Survived by six children two great grandchildren eight grandchildren and siblings in Portland Oregon. Funeral at Muehlethaler home and Elgin Methodist Church on Oct 1 with interment in Elgin cemetery. The Frieden family thanks relatives friends and neighbors for support during illness and loss.
Wartburg College Artist Series presents Verdi’s Il Trovatore in Waverly on October 26 at the Knights Gymnasium. The production promises the melodious, dramatic tale famed for fratricide, romance, war, witchcraft, and the rescue of a young woman, all in a high romantic style.

Ed Palmeri of Polk City was hit by a head wound from a hunter’s shot while hunting squirrels near Woodward. Another hunter fired at a squirrel on a log, not realizing Palmeri was nearby, injuring him.
Mrs Floyd Dittmer district committeewoman will lead the Farm Bureau women in Clay ton County at the annual fall contact meeting on Friday October 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Supplies for the year will be distributed and all county and township officers are urged to attend. A picnic dinner will be the noon meal with each person bringing one item.
Harvey Rissman of Waukon won the N E Iowa con tour plow meet in Giard township last Tuesday with 85.5 of 100. He led eight contestants from Clayton Winneshiek Fayette Dubuque and Allamakee counties. Runner up was John Hartwick of McGregor with 78. Other finishers were Dave Appelman James Wilgenbusch William Prob Harvey Buwold Lyle Teague and Glenn Waters.
Seven young men from Clayton county, including Glen L. Reier of Elgin and Dale D. Patterson of Wadena, were called to fill October draft slots. They will depart Monday, Oct 12, for Des Moines for army induction. Roger H. Amundson of Postville, now a corporal with the 7th Army in Germany, serves as supply clerk with the 807th Engineer Light Equipment Co. in Kassel after basic training at Schofield Barracks. Pvt. Donald W. Wallner, listed with U S 55311779, is with the 888th Transportation Company (Light Trucks) at APO 409A, New York.
Mr and Mrs Willis Petratz of Sioux Falls South Dakota welcomed a daughter born Sunday October 4. The baby weighs 6 pounds 2 ounces and has been named Eloise Elaine.

Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John McMillan included Tom Siamas of Cedar Rapids and Henry McMillan. Weekend visitors to Pierson included Walter Falk and Kent, while Rudy Possehl and Rudy Jr. joined Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Frieden in Elkader for a funeral in West Bend.
