Obituary of Mrs. John Anderson
Carrie Vaughn born August 25 1879 in Topeka Kansas grew up in Eagle Grove and taught school before marrying Fred Anderson. After his death she pursued public service as Wright county recorder and later married Will Lucas and then John C Anderson. A reform advocate she helped women’s suffrage and led a church ministry becoming the only woman minister to open both Iowa legislative houses. She died September 23 after a lingering illness with services held September 26 at Holmes Lutheran church. Surviving are her husband ten children four brothers and eleven grandchildren. Public notice announces a November 7 1950 election in Fayette County Iowa asking voters to approve a plan to erect and equip a new county home building and borrow 375000 dollars by bonds. A tax levy not exceeding eight tenths of one mill yearly would pay principal and interest starting 1951. Polls operate 8am–8pm statewide except Oelwein 7am–8pm. Elgin area residents hosted and visited relatives during a weekend spree. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Levi Neuensch wander and daughter with John Meahgan of Mt. Vernon. Myron Chapman family spent weekend in Kansas City with Mrs. Chapman’s sister and brother-in-law. Nancy Ellen, born Sept. 10, met them. Thomas Wayne Foels born Sept. 25 at Postville Hospital weighing 7 pounds 3 ounces. Kenneth Schori on furlough from Fort Lewis visiting Postville and Leo Schori home. Local enjoyed dinners with several families across Reinbeck, Clermont, Strawberry Point, Dubuque, and Decorah areas.

Obituary of Bert Gruver of Rockford area
Bert Gruver sr born December 11 1876 at Werton Island and worked as section foreman in Gruver Iowa from 1898 to 1906. He died September 24 1950 after living in Sioux Falls South Dakota and had a large family including his widow three daughters and four sons with many grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Rockford with local attendees.
