Voter turnout forecast for Iowa in 1946 general election

Secretary of State Melvin Synhorst predicts about half of the 1.7 million eligible voters will cast ballots in the November 6 general election, about 810000, the smallest turnout since 1946 due to absence of certain county offices on the ballot, a shorter ballot with no state judicial races, and no single decisive issue. University President Virgil Hancher denies plans to leave Iowa City for a Chicago school surveying job, and notes plans to drop the word State from the university title to reduce confusion among Iowa’s state higher education institutions.
