Valley High announces its first all school play Tom Sawyer to be performed Friday and Saturday Nov 8 and 9 in the Valley gym. Dramatics instructor Marlene Dur scher selected the cast including Larry Orth as Tom Sawyer and Phyllis Huns berger as Aunt Polly with a large group of students in lead and supporting roles and numerous behind the scenes workers listed.
The Marion Junior Lutherans met Thursday September 19 at the church. Lunch was served before the meeting and the program began with a hymn. Devo tions were given by Sonja Kjosa, followed by another hymn. New officers led the session as roll call was answered.
The secretary and treasurer reports were given. Members voted to pay 50c for work books. An entertainment committee and chairman were chosen. Contest teams selected with Sonja Kjosa and Billy Schave as captains. A game on occupations was played. Work books distributed. Members held a Bible quiz and Bible study. Jr. choir met afterward. New members Bill Schave and Harold. Hostesses led. reporter Marlys Houg.
Cub Scout Pack 120 of Wadena held its first fall pack meeting September 24 in the gym. Ricky Matthiesen led the flag ceremony with the American Flag, while Lonny Matthiesen and Jimmy Sniffin presented the Den Flag. Cubmaster Bern Roys welcomed guests from Elgin and Independence. Den mothers Marjorie Knox and Dona Matthiesen led science demonstrations and a display of science boxes. Awards were given for summer achievements including Bear and Wolf badges and graduation certificates. Dads and lads attended Camp Ingawanis Day on September 22 with activities such as archery rifle practice horseback riding canoeing skeet shooting baseball and a gold hunt.
Local residents including Mrs. Orlando Loftsgard Mrs. George Schupbach and Mrs. Wm Torkelson visited in Hawk Eye and nearby towns last Wednesday with numerous relatives and friends. Families such as Butikofer and Meyer attended farm progress shows church events and visits while several groups hosted Sunday gatherings and Saturday visits across Oelwein Savanna Clear Lake West Union and Walker areas.
