The Elgin Lutheran ALCW met in the fellowship hall on the afternoon of November 26 with hostesses including Mrs. Oliver Terelson Mrs. Arlene Leeman and Mrs. Gerald Brockhus Ash es Mrs John Butikofer Jr and Mrs Clifford Gisleson. Pianist Mrs Ben Butikofer supplied music and opening exercises were held.
A church gathering led by Mrs Lyle Manis included awards for pins to several members and a long thank you message from Mrs Marion Larson. Attendees listed include Harold Balverson, Harold Halver, Robert Coopman, Earl Sez, and Lyle Marin among 34 present. Sermon reflection from Matthew 5 and stewardship offerings followed with multiple hymns. Next meeting set for December 16 at the home of Mrs Teen Torkel with hostesses Mrs Don Sutter and others, to pack Christmas baskets.
The celebration included Mdms. Anne Howard Leon Shepard Metta Krueger Bertha Lehman Ed Boleyn Co. T. Fjelstul Grace Evans and Miss Clara Muehlethaler. Absent but sharing in gifts were Mdms. Ida Cum Toings Ida Pulfer and Louis Butikofer. Guests included Mdms. Dean De Sart Lee Roy Collin E. W. Hilgemann Arthur Lantz and Miss Hulda Nydegger.
The Norway church lists services on Nov 23 27 and 28 including Thanksgiving and communion with adult confirmation and Bible study in late November. Marion church shows Thanksgiving and worship times, Sunday school and a liturgy meeting invitation at Bethany Elkader, plus parish events at Luther College and NLCW meeting details.
A Friday evening housewarming hosted by Mr and Mrs Keith Johnson featured a picnic lunch and 500 card game. Attending were Carlton Krueger Leonard Heins Lyle Medberry Elmer Lembke Karl Lembke Francis Butikofer Earl Lembke Curtin Gilson Ronald Lofttegard Richard Frieden Larry Butikofer Dele Seitz Roger Frieden Dennis Buttkofer Bernard Lofts gard. Absent but sending gifts were Leslie Lembke and Robert Medberry.
The Birthday Club gathered to discuss upcoming events and member birthdays. Organizers named prominent attendees and outlined plans for cards, refreshments, and a charity fundraiser in the near term.
Dianne Frieden, a senior at Iowa Wesleyan majoring in physical education, was named Queen at Tawa College festivities. She wore a pink empire gown with crown and trophy, received red roses and a charm bracelet, and serves on Alpha Xi Delta’s executive council as membership chairman.
Funeral services for David Sanderson were held Sunday Nov 21 at Marion Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev L Gross officiating. Burial followed at Grand View Cemetery Fayette with pallbearers Tillman Thompson Howard Hansen Emory Lands gard Marion Loftsgard Sylvan Torkelson and Harvey Anderson. He died Nov 18 at Iowa City Hospitals at age 41. He was born April 23 1918 in Beaman Iowa and was baptized and confirmed in 1948. He married Darius Ruth Oltrogge Sept 6 in Nashua Little Brown Church. He is survived by his widow three children James Donald and Betty his father Edward Sanderson and four sisters plus numerous relatives and friends.
