Farm Topics and Agricultural Warnings from Iowa Bulletin
Thoroughly rat proof all farm buildings and protect against fires which cost Iowa nearly two million dollars last year. Iowa honey crop is the smallest in ten years. Demand for feeder cattle rises while dairy cows should be kept out of corn stalk fields sprayed earlier with DDT toxaphene or similar insecticides until further milk safety data is available.
Feeder Inshipments Below Normal
Feeder cattle movement into Town in October totaled about 250000 head, 5 percent below the prior October yet near the 1937 to 1946 average. The October record stands at 354285 head in 1948, while the July through October seasonal total is 5 percent under 1947. The note adds that feeding hogs is the best market path for corn.
