Echo Miss Gladys Carpenter visits Fayette friends and a Postville to Oelwein bus line starts between towns. West Union sees plumbing work, Elgin youth group rehearses, Mrs Hanson moves from Norway, Edna Weiber and Raymond Eins wed at M E parsonage. New Elgin school addition brings gym and auditorium praise. local illnesses rise with swollen glands.
Kohler hosted supper Sunday at the H. L. Gordon home in Clermont. Paul Dean his wife and children left Monday for Waukegan Illinois to make their winter home. Paul is employed by the American Can Co.
Betsy Christianson died at her daughter's home on Wednesday November 24 at age 84. Born March 1, 1864 in Marion township, she married Karl Christianson in 1889 and lived in Iowa and Wisconsin farms, most recently near Wauzeka. Survived by ten children, twenty grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one sister, with funeral services led by Rev. S J Strandford.
Grand Meadow residents shared a holiday period with numerous visits. Mrs. Lloyd Aanes stayed with Mrs. Caro line Erickson while Andrew Reinhart and Helen joined Selmer Holm family for Thanksgiving. Several others visited relatives in Clermont Fayette Ossian Hanlonton town and LeRoy areas.
Indefinite visit by Mr. and Mrs. Leo Boyer from Fresno to Cresco and Vern Boyer homes. Bernard Hanson’s daughter born Nov 24 at Postville hospital weighing 7 lb 14 oz named Inga Lorraine. Thanksgiving gatherings include Archie Howard, Bertha Frisbie, and several families in nearby towns. Chicago visit by Rev and Mrs Johnson and Vaughn returning home after stay with the Harry Johnson family.
Thanksgiving remembrances fill the Brainard area as families host relatives from West Union Fresno Clermont and Congerville with visits from the Kerr Peters and Helms households. Local clubs plan a December Progress Club meeting at Walter Falb’s home following a social at the schoolhouse plus a Waring concert noted for Cedar Rapids attendance.
Wadena residents share Thanksgiving at multiple homes. Guests include James Fennell and Derryl Leonhart households. Students home from Iowa City Ames Grand Junction Clinton Postville Tripoli Des Moines join family gatherings. In Waterloo, Frank Welshen entertained kin for grandson Jimmie Mattern’s seventh birthday. Additional visits from Oelwein Des Moines Winthrop Fayette and Fayette area families. Dawson Clark spent from Wednesday until Saturday.
A Cedar Rapids newspaper note reports a fatality from a fallen power line as Dale Shipp of Irvin died while investigating rising Strioke during a hunt. Immediate prospects point to continued strong demand for farm products over the next six months.
