Obituary for Thomas Lien Died November 10 1961

Thomas Lien born June 6 1877 in Clayton County Iowa died November 10 1961 after a lingering illness. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. He farmed in Iowa and the Leroy area and married Josephine Ostlie on October 28 1899 in Clermont Lutheran Church. They had five children Lillian Bernard Edna Clifford who died at seven and an infant son. He is survived by sister Mrs Laura Olson of Decorah six grandchildren and many relatives. Funeral services were held November 13 at 2 p.m. at the Leroy Lutheran Church with Rev Hanson officiating. Interment followed at Leroy Lutheran Cemetery. Martz Funeral Home of LeRoy handled arrangements. Casket bearers were Francis Peterson Alfred Knudson Lavern Aaker Donald Hatlestad Ronald Lien Orlando Kitileson.

Entertain Card Club Hosts Reward Winners

Mr and Mrs Leo Falk hosted the 500 club Sunday evening at their home. Prizes were awarded for ladies high to Mrs Gene Schori and low to Mrs Dean DeSart, men's high to John McMillan, and low to large.

The Elgin A L C W hosted a regular meeting November 16 with hostesses Mervin Hunsberger Paul Larson Philman Larson Dwayne Frieden Dean DeSart and Robert Helms Ushering was by Pearl Johnson and Selmer Groth Marjorie Reed played piano The group led with Hymn 411 and devotions from 2 Chronicles focusing on praying for the nation A lesson titled How Shall I Pray for My Nation included Memory Verse 2 Chronicles 7 14 Belva Snyder read a poem Putting God In The Nation's Life Hymn 269 My Faith Looks Up To Thee The Cause Of The Month Treasure Chest Ingathering was explained during a special service The secretary's report was read and approved The December meeting was moved to December 14 with a Christmas decoration exchange Birthday offerings were collected and sung The meeting closed with the Lord's Prayer and Table Grace.

Pleasant Point Study Club met November 13 at Mrs. Myrten Strong’s home. The group discussed progress, heard a poem titled My Get Up and Go read by Mrs. Strong, and members displayed aprons and patterns. The December meeting with Mrs. Howard Medberry will host a Christmas party.

Dinner at the Buick Dynamic Club host Mrs Helms celebrated Gregory's first birthday with guests including Mr and Mrs Herman Larson, Marshall Helms, Harley Helms, Rose Schmidt and Marie. Sunday visitors were Clarence and Alta Thoman. Various locals and guests were noted visiting or dining with families at Clermont West Union Volga and surrounding areas.
