Farmers Inspect Bins For Insects And Moisture Crust
Farmers should check shelled corn oats and small grains for insect presence by crawling over the grain surface to spot a damp crust from moisture not evaporating. Insects may be found a foot to 18 inches below the crust and hot to touch. Immediate fumigation with carbon disulphide is advised when crust is detected. Alfalfa and bromegrass are good pasture.
Never wear loose clothing near corn picker work
Caution advises workers to avoid long coats and baggy garments that could snag on moving parts of a corn picker to prevent entanglement and injury during operation.
