Sherman Valuables Bring Large Sums at Auction
An auction of black walnut furniture at the old colonial home of Dr. Amelia Sherman and Miss Althea Sherman west of McGregor drew about 1000 people. Items sold included a secretary for 138, a dresser 45, a rocking chair 45, a bedstead 25, chairs 11 and 28, with a Paisley shawl 23 and a glass kerosene lamp 11. Under Miss Althea Sherman’s will about 25000 will go to Oberlin College for the Biology department ornithology program.

The Elgin Study Club met Tuesday evening November 7 at Sue Bovis home with twelve members present. The program focused on Russia.
