Honored Citizen at Rest Chris Meyer
Chris Meyer of Elgin passed away at home on Saturday morning November 10 1923 at age eighty two after years of failing health. Born in Bern Switzerland on March 10 1846 he immigrated to Clayton county Iowa then farmed nearby before retiring to Elgin in 1908. Married May 26 1871 to Mary Baumgartner they raised six children and eleven grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Apostolic church with burial in the Apostolic cemetery beside his long farm career and devoted family care.
