September farm income rose 16 percent from 1985, while the U S price index climbed 12 points mid October versus a year earlier. US farm exports for the year to June 30 were 15 percent above 1984-85. Popcorn should reach about 13 percent moisture for optimal popping. Iowa roughage quality varies, affecting feeding in localities. Fall colts offer calendar relief and easier mare care. Hog finishing should begin grain feeding 30 to 40 days prekill to improve meat quality. Cod liver oil substitutes sunlight for poultry vitamin D in winter. Feed rations for laying flocks should include fish oils in darker days. Seed corn moisture, storage, and protection against cold remain priority this winter.
