The Elgin Echo prints a county notice directing enforcement of weed control with costs to be assessed against landowners. Azel Gehring, County Auditor, orders publication in Fayette County newspapers and assigns the Weed Commissioner to complete the work.
A Fayette County board resolution orders landowners to destroy noxious weeds under Chapter 317 Iowa Code. It designates weed types, deadlines such as June 1 1981 and June 15 1961, and requires actions for streets and highways safety. It mandates a five year weed destruction program and penalties for noncompliance.
The Clayton County Extension calendar lists Memorial Day closures and upcoming events. Activities include Cattle Feeders Day at Iowa State University in Ames at 9 a.m., an orientation meeting for a Washington D. C. trip at the Extension office, Volga Readers 4-H Chile tour, and a 4-H Girls Rally Day from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Elkader Central Community School, plus the Grand Meadow Go Getter 4-H Club tour.
Linda S n Cedar Rapids wed Virgil Frieden in a double ring ceremony at St Pauls Methodist Elgin. Officiated by Rev Donald Caspers with soloists Kathryn Knudtson. Bride wore white cotton dress with eyelet details and cardenias corsage. attendants included Mrs Allen Frieden and Bill Stephenson. reception at Mulford home followed by trip to Clear Lake and home at 250 11th St NW Cedar Rapids.
The Illyria Homemakers Club met Friday May 19 at Mrs Will Christen's home. Fourteen members attended as the pledge of allegiance was given and Rita Kuhens gave a short report.
A Fayette chairmen's meeting reviewed scholarship discussions and plans a Cedar Rapids tour with the Pleasant Valley Homemakers Club. Mrs Mabel King gave a lesson on making planters and lunch was served by the hostess.
Regular session at the town hall with mayor and councilmen present. Minutes approved. towing bills audited. Various fund disbursements listed including street construction, general, waterworks, sanitation, and library tax receipts. Licenses approved for pool table. insect control materials purchased. meeting adjourned.
In a May 5 1961 special session at the town hall Mayor Jee E Friederich and Council members present approve a resolution instructing the town to prepare a levy estimate. A second resolution fixes the hearing date for the sewer construction bond tax to pay 64000.00 for future years, with adoption carried and the meeting adjourned. Attest Town Clerk Leon E. Friederich.
Mr and Mrs Aillen Habeger spent Sunday visiting relatives in Cedar Rapids and Manchester after attending Lillian Smiths 1961 Spring Recital for YWCA Students of Dance at the YMCA Little Theatre. Granddaughter Susan Habeger was a recital pupil. The party shared the day with Mr and Mrs Eugene Habeger and with Mr and Mrs George Vaughn in Manchester.
Mr and Mrs Howard Steward of Strewberry Point visit Puffett and Vaughns. Walter Leh man Dorothy Mueller and Mil lie Lamprecint, all of Manchester, attended. Mr and Mrs Habeger brought the Vaughns home Sunday night on their way home from Cedar Rapids.
Andrea Schori granddaughter of Leo Schori performed in Scheherazade by Rimsky Korshakoff at the new McCormace Place Theatre in Chicago on May 3. Music was by the 75 piece Chicago Business Men's Symphonic Orchestra. Andres, aged 1, has recently been confirmed in the Lutheran church. she is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Schori.
Mr and Mrs Bernard Hanson hosted a Sunday dinner after their daughter Sylvia was confirmed at East Clermont Church. Guests included Mr and Mrs Oliver Larson and family, Mr and Mrs Arthur Amand and family, and others.
Richard Amundson presented a topic on orchard grass bird foot trefoil and sweet clover at the Marion Happy Hustlers 4-H meet held Monday the 15th at the home of Paul Margaret and Sylvia Henson. Twenty one members participated.
The clubs voted to resume a tour Monday June 19 starting at 8 00 pm at Paul Mer 2 and Sylvia Hanson s home. A noon picnic dinner will be at Clermont The club will cover half the short course expense 9 00 dollars. Peter and Dale Bilden demonstrated how to side dress garden vegetables refreshments were served by Mrs Bernard Hanson Peter Bilden reporter.
In a home gathering hosted by Mrs. Donald Caspers, the Illyria and Illytia circles held a panel discussion on the status of women in the church. Rev. Donald Caspers showed a film titled A Chance to Grow while circles Mary and others celebrated with a birthday party and a lesson Words Can Be Walls. Guests included Mrs. Herry Cline, Mrs. Robert Han gon, Mrs. Newell McIntyre, Mrs. Walter Follett, and Mrs. Clifton Wilson.
