Sea Honor Chaplains Honor Eastern Star Station

Elgin Ohio Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star honored Chaplain Mrs. C B Schori last Wednesday evening with escorted entry by conductor Mrs Jack Adrian A special ceremony was held and Mrs Lea Falkworthy presented Mrs Schori a vase of flowers in Star Point colors She spoke briefly and thanked the chapter Past chaplains attended and a social hour followed with ice cream and cake prepared by Mrs Gehring Mrs Mulford and others

The Merion Busy Bees met at Charlem Butikofer's on May 1 with 33 members responding to roll call. The group discussed a plan to earn money for the club and scheduled a bake sale.

Fayette Banker Charles Carpenter Dies at 54 Years

Cheeles R. Carpenter 54 a Fayette banker died Thursday May 11 in a Des Moines hospital and was buried in Fayette He joined the local bank in 1887 rising to president in 1916 and serving as chairman of the board after 1957 He also served as trustee of Fayette Methodist Church and Upper Iowa University Carpenter married Gertrude Whitney in 1892 and they had 66 years of marriage before her death He is survived by daughter in law grandson and nieces and was well known in Elgin for banking interests and visits to his niece Mrs C B Schori.

Pleasant Point Study Club Entertains Guests

The Pleasant Point Study Club hosted 17 guests at Mrs. Forrest Shaffer's home on a Tuesday afternoon. Presiding, President Mrs. Emmett Light led the meeting with the object and roll call introduced guests. A Mother’s Day program themed The Kitchen featured toasts, songs, and meditations, with performances by Mrs. James Hermen and others, followed by lunch hosted by the co-hostesses.

Pulfer Led Junior Achievement Efforts In Pekin

Leslie L. Pulfer, assistant superintendent at Standard Brands Inc formerly of Elgin, steered Pekin’s Junior Achievement program last school year. Leading industries sponsor JA and select top young plant executives to donate time guiding high school students in production sales and business principles.

Pekin youths run student co op with profits and dividends

Students from VW Winds Jr. Achievement Co sponsored by Standard Brands Inc. run a two hour weekly business year. They stock capital, make products, sell them, pay wages, elect officers and liquidate at year end. They posted profits from 33 bird feeders to 800 lbs bird seed and topped the Pekin area with highest gross sales. Each stockholder was repaid original investment plus 10 percent dividends and $250 remained to split among 16 members.

Approved Farms for il Conservation District May Meeting

Three farms in the Clayton Soil Conservation District received plan approvals at the May meeting. Arthur Dittmer of Sperry Township James Corell of Cass Township and Arthur Helgerson of Grand Meadow Township were authorized. Nine initial agreements covering Grville Zittergruen Farmersburg Township Lentir Bros Clayton Township Ma Jone Bros Cass Township Edward J Schulte Sperry Township Earl Stoner Sperry Township Floyd Erlewine Elk Township Wayne Carroll Cow Creek were also accepted.
