Sondra Shepard became the bride of Loren Lee Eberling at St Pauls Methodist Church Postville. Rev Lee Roy Collins officiated the double ring ceremony with music by Ronald Meyer. The couple planned a short wedding trip before the groom returns to army duty and the bride works as a see s aid at Postville Hospital.
The Marion Junior Lutherans met Thursday evening May 16. Hostesses were Mrs. Robert McNally and Mrs. Maurice Landsgard. The meeting opened with Hymn 161 and reading titled My Bible and I by Gary Landsgard.
Janet Amundson, David Amundson, Larry Landsgard and Ronda McNally lead Junior group lessons titled The Bible for the Home stressing universal reach for family and individual. Ushers named Gerald and Larry Loftsgard. From study How Bible Stories Travel Around the World, Gospel spread by a midweek school. Huskie and His Pet Lamb tells of a Navaho child from the Navaho Reservation in Arizona. Children made a Huskie lamb craft with cotton balls. A star marked Nevada on our World Bank collection. Upper Iowa University campus Friday event followed dinner. initiation ceremony held at Mrs. E. B. Garbee’s home admitting Fayette residents and others. helpers included Mrs. Pickett and Mrs. M. H. Moore. officers and others present.
Debbie DeSart, Sally Stephenson and others stayed overnight with Jeri Martin while Gary Baldwin visited in the Lyle Martin home. Numerous visits followed including anniversaries, birthday greetings, and family gatherings in Independence, Cedar Rapids, West Union, Clermont, Ossian, Postville, and other nearby towns.
Founders' day of the Delta Kappa Gamma society and Phi chapter ninth birthday were observed at a dinner and program held at the Grove-Walker building in Fayette and Buchanan counties.
Pee Wee and Midget baseball and a girls softball program run in Elgin. Starts Monday June 10 for nine weeks. Open to Valley Community School District boys age 8 by summer and not turning 17 before Sept 1, and girls from 4th grade to high school. Practice schedule in force. films shown May 28 at 7:30 p.m.
This week in 7th grade English students reviewed for the semester test while 8th graders took a state trip. Perfect spelling test papers went to Susan Jones Patty Gunderson Jane Anderson Janet Amundson Melissa Moore Gregory Olson Diane James Janice Corbin Jackie Schori. In language arts BA students practiced courtesy phrases.
In seventh grade Home Ec students stitched aprons with rickrack while studying Australia and New Zealand. Eighth grade history began a unit on US government, covering the last fourteen presidents and citizenship. A field trip took place on May 15 to Villa Louis and Wyalusing State Park. Later, eighth graders from Clermont, Elgin, and Wadena visited, toured rooms, and shared subject insights.
Valley High hosted a girls track meet against Monona Farm Ereburg and Luana. Valley won the competition with strong performances by multiple athletes across events.
A student panel recalls memories from four years at Des Moines High School. Ruth Bilden mentions basketball, cheerleading, Homecoming Queen year and friendships. Diane Frieden highlights basketball practices and games, Barb Gibbs notes music activities, Margie Swenson and others praise friends, plays, bookkeeping, and junior high memories. Suzie Harville remembers cheerleading and games.
A local community page lists upcoming events with milestones in May including Eighth Grade and High School graduations. Several families, such as Celia Kohls and Lena Baumgartner, hosted or visited guests at dinner and over the weekend, with several residents like Mr and Mrs Clifton Wilson hosting or visiting relatives.
