Advertising signs on Iowa roads ordered removed during May cleanup
The Iowa State Highway Commission directs maintenance superintendents statewide to notify sign owners that advertising signs in the right of way must be removed May 17 to 22 or they will be torn down. Signs attached to fences are treated as on the right of way unless they merely guide traffic or pose no danger. Off right of way private signs are spared unless they obstruct vision or create danger. Penalties apply to officials who fail to enforce the highway cleanup.
