The Sumner Gazette notes the town council’s reluctance toward another PWA grant after the town hall project, citing red tape and labor. Two transients received ten year indeterminate sentences for breaking into and entering the New Albin Liquor store in Alle Makee county district court.
The board met Monday night to approve the coming year’s corps of teachers. Principal J H Williams and assistant principal Lula B Hurd lead the staff with Lizzie B Lyons, Anna Baldwin and others among the former Elgin instructors, Miss Hurd being the exception. Hattie Bakeman to represent Elgin at Epworth League convention. Junior League sessions led by Miss Fannie Hoag and Miss May Hoag feature talks for Junior Epworthians. Dur ing the same session a contract was awarded.

Twenty graduates will walk out of the Elgin high school soon to start their lives. Some will college bound to add to knowledge, but most will enter professions or jobs directly, as many opportunities now exist beyond four years of schooling.
Helena Miculanick returned to Elgin Friday after a two week visit with her sister Mrs Clarence Conner in Clive Iowa. The Kiple and Dennison families from Jesup Oelwein Fayette Fayette County veterinary dinner at Fayette Legion hall and various Barker and Boyle family visits noted. a busy social round around Waterloo West Union Brainard Clermont and surrounding towns.
Celia Lehman stayed with Walter Rothlisberger in Illyria while Mrs. George Vaughn visits relatives in Dundee. George Vaughn returned to work in Dubuque after a weekend at home. Numerous families including the Robbins, Pfister, Scheel, and Boyle clans shared meals and visits around Clermont, Oelwein, and West Union. Capt. Lynch was elected vice-president of the northeast Town R U T C at Waterloo. many folks spent Mother's Day weekend with relatives and noted anniversaries.
