Harold Nieman, playing at Marshalltown's Rolling Hills course Sunday, drove a tee into a golf ball after teeing off on the 36th hole. The tee remained undamaged, and no fracture appeared on the ball, suggesting an abandoned tee near the ball was struck into the ball during the swing.

Frank Kiple of Jesup was elected superintendent of Buchanan county schools on Tuesday. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. M. V. Kiple of Elgin and has taught at Jesup for seven years while serving as coach and teacher. Previously he was principal of Fairbank for one year. He is married with one child and alumni of Elgin High School and Upper Iowa University, with post graduate work at Iowa and Southern California universities. Friends extend congratulations.
The B Y P U at the Baptist church will present a Mother's Day program on Sunday evening May 14. The event offers a chance to hear winners from district and state music contests. Featured acts include a song service, a mixed quartet, a mother reverie, Clermont High School Girls' Sextette, soloists Edna Mae Kamm and Sula Paul Schulie, and a testimonial segment on what Mother Means to Us.

H O Moyer justice of the peace was stricken with blindness while preparing to fish. A blood vessel burst near an eye causing total blindness. He previously lost sight in that eye years ago and has remained partially blind in the other. He is at his office and hopeful for recovery per the Oquelin Register.

Pratt’s Rocks in Prattsville New York were named for Col Zadock Pratt who founded much of the village. The rock outcrop sits high in the eastern part of the village and is reached by a winding path. Once carved with faces trees and horses and painted white a tramp aided by Pratt is said to have carved the figures.
