Obituary of Mrs Jacob Butikofer in Postville

Rose Butikofer, born June 25 1871 in Canton Bern Switzerland, died May 2 in Postville at 78. Survived by husband Jacob, four sons George Ed Walter Fred, daughter Minnie, one niece, twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three sisters, one brother, and many relatives. Funeral held at Muehlethaler funeral home and Christian Apostolic church with Rev. Fred Grimm officiating. Card of thanks from Jacob Butikofer and children.

Fayette County Farm Bureau approves home building contract

In the regular monthly meeting the Fayette County Farm Bureau board passed a resolution authorizing officers to sign a contract with Ep person & Co. Sumner for a Farm Bureau home. The 54 by 56 foot story and a half building will have an auditorium and offices on the second floor, cement block plan with brick facing on west and south. Construction should start within a week. Town dairymen aim to boost profits by cutting costs.

Remembrance Box initiative expands in Iowa Auxiliary

The Iowa Department American Legion Auxiliary 8 broadens its Remembrance Box program to assist unfortunate children in Iowa Institutions. Donors are urged to provide gifts such as cards, books, puzzles, games, instruments, and art supplies to support emotional needs and give the kids something to look forward to each week. Community members may donate through Auxiliary members. more notices will appear in next week's Echo.

May rainfall totals and storms in the area

May has brought more rain following April showers totaling 4.27 inches. This month, 2.78 inches have fallen so far, enough for present needs. The heaviest May rainfall occurred on May eighth at 1.66 inches.

Pike Season Opens May 15 in Iowa Fisheries

The season opens May 15 adding northern pike walleye sauger pike perch and white or silver bass to existing open fishes. Nesting game fish do not open until June 1 and include smallmouth bass largemouth bass warmouth bass sunfish bluegill and rock bass. Frog season starts May 12 with a catch limit of twelve.

Prices index for Iowa farm products rises in April

Iowa farmers received higher prices in April with the index at 268, the strongest since last October. The past year saw an 8 percent pickup in farm prices, led by crop gains while livestock and products moved mixed, milk and poultry soft, beef up slightly, hogs easing midmonth. The price ratio of prices received to prices paid rose one point to 1.98, reflecting overall price strength.

Rabid Skunk Pursued Woman as Farm Fight Erupts

A rabid skunk chased Mrs. John Amibehower back into her Chariton area farm home last week. The family dog entered the scene and killed the skunk, regarded as mad by the witnesses.
