An essay argues that mankind has forgotten how to think and improve life. It laments widespread complacency amid social ills, war, and pollution, urging renewed reasoning to avert extinction and to keep society advancing. It cites everyday duties and a bus driver refrain to illustrate civic responsibility and decency.
A public road story notes Valley tas drivers and their varied jobs. It lists fourteen thousand miles traveled monthly by the group and an average of over 930 miles per bus. The longest route covers 26 miles twice daily, with seven drivers hauling junior high and high school students to Cler mont and Valley. The drivers are part time workers with diverse occupations including farming milking truck gas service and cafe ownership.
A weekly lunch menu lists daily offerings including Friday cheese fondue with cheese sauce corn egg salad radishes cauliflower celery cherry coke and milk. Monday maidrite on homemade bun buttered spinach celery carrot sticks prune upside down cake bread and butter milk. Tuesday roast beef mashed potatoes gravy toss salad bread and butter apple crisp milk. Wednesday turkey and dressing buttered broccoli celery pickles cheese sandwiches banana milk. Thursday ground beef tomato macaroni casserole buttered green beans carrots and sweet pickles bread butter doughnut peach milk.
Supt. M H Moore announces the final day of the 665 school year will be Friday May 28. The board members approved the dismissal date.
Seventh and eighth grade girls will hold a triangular track meet on April 27 at Clermont with West Central as the opponent. On April 13, 1965, Jr. High boys will host M.F.L. and West Central at the Clermont Jr. High track field.
The text describes 7th graders studying animal classification by structure, insect reports, and DNA filmstrips. Eighth graders explore DNA and blood functions. Math covers fractions and operations. later grades work on circle circumference, pi, and geometry with lines and planes in space.
The sixth grade completed a Space unit with experiments current events and films. A notable film was Space Travel AD 2000. A practice teacher Mr Heeren decorates rabbits from detergent bottles and cotton, described as real cute.
Last week the class created a decorative Easter egg tree with 29 eggs. The lesson tied to math on joining numerals and separating numerals, and science on heat from the sun fire gas and electricity. Students performed experiments noting buds opening in water and snow cubes melting, and observed daily temperature changes affecting hot chocolate.
Kindergarten children eagerly decorate Easter eggs for the bulletin board and Easter Egg Tree. Two white baby bunnies with pink eyes and ears have been living in the room. Visitors this week include Ardel Amundson Olin Amundson Stacy Anderson Terry Becker Scott Bushman Randall Bukikofer Jay Dibble Leo Duran and Lu Ann Flack from the fall kindergarten class.
Seventh grade studies paragraph structure and topic sentences while exploring animal stories. Eighth grade completes a unit on adjectives adverbial and noun clauses with tests. A seventh grade quiz classifies animals and builds a chart on animal phyla characteristics. In eighth grade science they study blood focusing on the heart and kidney functions.
Marie Brackin contributed a kidney and lungs for a human biology study. The team also debated blood cell findings and related experiments. Researchers focused on organ donation ethics and experimental outcomes.
The 7th grade reviewed adding multiplying of rational numbers and explored associative and distributive properties. 8th grade studied right prisms surface area and volumes, with tests on geometric figures. Students reported on Eurasia Asian countries and celebrated figures in science, literature, and art. Third grade tackled arithmetic up to 36 and created booklets on famous people. A new social studies unit introduces airplanes with model planes from some boys.
In an April 13 1965 triangular meet Valley 8th graders fell to West Central and MFL with 38 47 and 26. Seventh graders lost 35 41 and 35 to MFL West Central. Next meet set for Luther College Decorah on April 23.
