Iowa General Assembly Ends With Tight Two Mill Levy Doubt

The 48th Iowa General Assembly closed with doubt over maintaining a two mill state tax levy for the next two years. State comptroller data show the appropriation total barely safe, implying receipts must stay strong. The session approved $16,258,591 per year for state departments, with overall biennial funding at $18,258,591 per year. Inmates’ daily support averages were set low, and two child unions received modest increases. Senator Breen sharply challenged the bill as insufficient for institutions and conservation.
