Robbed of 1600 Dollars Worth of Produce

Vic Perry, hijacked entering Chicago with a truckload of eggs, returned to St Lucas Friday. The truck was recovered but the hijackers were freed and the $1600 of produce unrecovered. Perry followed his attorney’s advice and left Chicago alive. Earlier hijackings between Maywood and Lombard suggest an organized band. Vic plans to continue trucking with police protection from Elgin into Chicago.

Attorney Cooney Nominated for Who's Who in Government

Martin M. Cooney of West Union, Fayette County attorney, is notified by the Biographical Research bureau of New York City that his name has been recommended for inclusion in Who's Who In Government. Advisory editors include twenty state governors and it is believed Governor Hammill helped prompt the recognition.

Hoover plan asks 85000 for Oelwein postoffice

President Hoover submitted recommendations to Congress for federal buildings totaling 28,693,540 with 85000 slated for an Oelwein postoffice. Also listed are a Davenport postoffice and courthouse and a Dubuque customs house and post office. Social items follow with weekend visits and local events.

Largest chattel mortgage returned to Lima works

Recorder Arthur E. Johnson this week filed what he calls the largest chattel mortgage ever recorded in Fayette county. The $1 293 000 loan covers fifteen locomotives leased by the Chicago Great Western railway and was returned to the Lima Locomotive works of Lima Ohio after recording for a fee of 2.76 dollars.

Alfred Jenson and family of Water loo were guests Sunday night in the Oscar Nyborg home. T. T. Loftsgard and family were dinner guests Sunday in the Mrs. S. Sonstgard home near St. Olaf. Mrs. Paul Heuser and daughter Virginia left Monday for Cedar Rapids where they expect to reside. Mrs. B. Nelson was a dinner guest Sunday in the Even Glesne home Wagner township. Myrtle Olsen assisting Mrs. Lou Reierson with spring sewing. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Erickson and Gust Johnson of Wadena were guests Sunday in the E. B. Hoag home. George Landsgard and family weekend guests in the Herman Scholen home near Lansing. Stella Bonstegard near St. Olaf assisting Mrs. T. T. Loftsgard with house cleaning this week. Mrs. Mervin Stake and daughter visitors in the G. Kurth home Monday afternoon. G. Jellum spending a few days in the N. T. Loftsgard home. Myrtle Olson and Mrs. Lou Reierson were Oelwein shoppers last Thursday. Pete Anderson of Elgin painting at the L. C. Reierson place this week. Mr. and Mrs. N. T. Loftsgard and daughter Sophia were callers at the Albert Jellum home Sunday afternoon. Sophia Loftsgard assisted her sister Mrs. Henry Amundson with paper hanging last Monday. Anna Mae Kimball closed her school with a picnic and program Friday. Several other neighborhood schools closed for summer vacation. The C C Torkelson family moved to the Mrs Rosa Baumgartner home on Center street last Saturday. Mrs Ana DeSart and daughter Dorothy went to Waterloo Sunday to visit friends and relatives. On Monday they attended Frederics permanent waving demonstration and returned home Monday afternoon.
