Elgin Lutheran Church Women Meet in March Session

The Elgin Lutheran Church Women met March 16 in the fellowship hall. Hostesses were Mesdames Stutrud Butikofer Nelson Torkelson Schneider and Blockhus. Ushers were Mrs Severpel and Mrs Butikofer. Devotions by Mrs Fauser covered Psalm 32 and posed prayer questions. Mrs Stutrud sang solo Sag My Sins on Jesus. Meyer showed New Guinea Mission slides explaining World Missions. It was voted to donate to the Lutheran Childrens Home at Waverly. Executive board set evening meetings to begin in May.

Pleasant Point Study Club Meeting Notes

The Pleasant Point Study Club held its regular meeting Tuesday afternoon March 14 at Mrs Myrton Strong home. Thirteen members answered roll call with Someone Should Invent. A visit to Fayette County hospital was postponed. Allen Habeger gave thanks.

Gift club displays handiwork from ill patients

Mrs Harold reads a selicle and notes gifts given during illness. Members arranged baskets and lamp shades made from cards, plus enclosure cords and pictures to frame. The watchword was repeated and lunch was served.

Pleasant Valley Homemakers Meet at Mrs Orth Home

The Pleasant Valley Homemakers Club gathered March 17 with nineteen members. Activities included flag salute, Farm Bureau Spirit song, reports on Fayette executive meeting and Rural Woman’s Day, a plan for a style show, and a musical number. Members discussed a district workshop in Fayette April 24 and a club trip plan.

Elgin Soldier Serves in Grafenwehr Training Exercise

Army Sgt. Leo L. Schori Jr. of Elgin participates with the 3d Armored Division's 1st Cavalry in a six week field training exercise at Grafenwehr Germany. The phase ends March 28. The exercise covers cold weather day and night maneuvers. The Graswnohtr training area is NATO's largest in Europe. Schori, a communications chief in Kirch Gens Headquarters Company, entered the Army in 1959 and arrived overseas in March 1959. A 1951 Elgin High School graduate, he attended Upper Iowa University. his wife Diane accompanies him.

Pleasant Valley Sharpshooters Meet at Frieden Home

The March meeting of the Pleasant Valley Sharp Shooters was held at James Frieden’s home on Wednesday night March 1. Judging on the Hoards cow contest wrapped up and entry blanks were sent in. James Frieden was elected to state convention and leadership. Harold Boulton attended as a guest.

Dubuque Area Students Tour Methodist Churches

A group from Clermont and St. Pauls Methodist Churches traveled by car tour through the Dubuque area visiting Lake's Methodist Church and New Monastery after attending classes at Dubuque University Wartburg Seminary and Finley. The four vehicles carried students and accompanying adults including Mrs Gordon Mosby and Mrs Harold Triem among others.

The Baptist Men monthly meeting at Valley High gymnasium Monday night planned an evening of recreation and games for all. Special guests were the teenage sons of members. Moore Family and Friends Gather for Easter Week

Elkader and area residents hosted visitors and family gatherings for Easter week.
