Clayton lodge members in Monona plan a Masonic rally Friday evening. Thirty five lodges invited. most expect to attend. Grand Master Jory to speak after a banquet at 6 30 PM at the Methodist church. Program to begin at 8 o clock with past and present officers attending.

Lt Carl J Robinson writes from U S Advanced Naval Base Fleet San Francisco Feb 26 1944 about receiving the Echo base paper and a mimeographed daily with war news. He recalls paper shortages drivers of camp life in Iowa style roads near the base, open air movies with rain gear, improving living quarters, and neighbors dubbing them The Junior Seabees. He notes fresh foods via the chaplain and laments dehydrated rations while contrasting New Zealand Australian meat with Iowa pork and beef. He mentions friends Howard Zos ehke and Major J L Larson and sends regards to Elgin Illinois friends.

Mr and Mrs Bart Kamm resign as superintendent and matron of Fayette county home effective April 1. Supervisors appoint Mr and Mrs Glen Mittelstadt of Maynard to take their places. Kamms plan future location and cite the help problem as the cause of resignation.
Mrs. Geo M Berry of West Union was instantly killed last Wednesday afternoon at about 6 00 when the car carrying four others struck a cattle truck near Pontville creamery. Driver Francis Loftus tried to pass the truck on an icy spot and the car slid into the truck. Also riding were Mrs Loftus and Mrs Berry’s daughter Mrs Paul Fisher and her Durham North Carolina husband.
