The Elgin Echo Dial published weekly in Elgin Iowa by Hermen and Bartunek as a second class mail matter since September 1 1891 with publication every Wednesday.
The Elgin Lutheran Church women held their regular monthly meeting June 20 in the fellowship hall. Hostesses were Mrs. Ben Butihofer, Mrs. Elmer Lembke, Mrs. Don Fauser, and Mrs. Clarence Hofer. Ushers were Mrs. T. Fijelstul and Mrs. Paul Larson. Glen Medberry was pianist. The program featured cradle roll songs by graduates, a piano duet by Myrna and Melissa Moore, poems read by Russell Wenger, and a piano selection by Linda Medberry. Pastor Fjelstul spoke briefly to the graduates.
Those graduating from cradle roll were Clifton Pfister Brian Thompson Kent Moore David Lauer Diane Halverson Margie Halverson Tami Butikofer Kimberly DeSart and Polly Medberry. Those received into Cradle Roll were Lori Lembke Kelly Sutter Derrick Torkelson Angela Blockhus Karen Friederick Laurie Frederick Kevin Lembke Joni Hagelie Valerie Butikefer and Mary Jo Halverson. Mrs Mervin Hunsberger presented our Bible Study Christ Is Our Liberator. Mrs Dwayne Frieden presented the worship offering meditation. The secretary's report was read and approved. A motion was made and seconded that we serve the Lions Club suppers starting in July. Mrs Bill Moore donated three sink mats. A motion was made that we purchase six dozen cups. Mrs Moore was appointed to do this. The birthday offering was received and the birthday song was sung. Our meeting closed by praying the Lord's Prayer and singing the table grace. There were 36 children and 46 adults present.
Marlene Ash of Fayette, bride elect of Ronald Baker of Elgin, was honored at a miscellaneous shower Friday evening June 21 at the Farm Bureau building in Fayette. Hostesses included Mrs. Lloyd Holtzman Jean Holtzman Carolyn Ash and Mrs. Herbert Humiston. About 45 guests attended. Attendees from this area included Mrs. Roger Amundson Clermont Mrs. Ed Medberry Karen Landswerk Cresco Mrs. Herbert Ash Mrs. Lane Ash Mrs. Alton Medberry and Mrs. Doyle Baker and Connie.
Elgin invites men to join a new homecoming chorus. Rehearsals start Friday night June 28 at 9:00 p.m. in the basement of the Methodist church, Elgin, with future Fridays at 8:00 p.m. Open to high school age and older, directed by Russell Goodell, Valley High vocal instructor.
Wadena Cub Scout Pack 120 held a picnic at Twin Bridges Park north of Maynard on Sunday June 23. After dinner a short meeting and flag ceremony led by Joni Jo Baldwin featured the pledge. Bernard Roys awarded Bear, Webelo badges to Steven Hermen Kevin Schmitt Greg Halverson and a 3 year pin plus silver arrow under the Lion for Gary Roys who will leave Cub Scouting June 26.
A social gathering lists attendees including Mrs. Clarence Schmit Mrs. Harold Halverson and multiple families with guests from Minnesota. A probate notice in Fayette County Iowa dated June 1 1963 announces a hearing for the last will and testament of Lettie Bruden, deceased, in West Union.
Richard Reierson won the carcass show at Rath's Waterloo Quality Lamb Show with his FFA farming program entry. The Valley FFA chapter placed fourth in the carcass contest, receiving a purple ribbon for the championship and blue first place ribbon. Reierson’s lamb placed third in the judging.
Mrs. Harvey Meyer hosted a gathering in North Dakota to mark the 83rd birthday of a guest of honor. The event featured Wanda entertaining a pet for Ms. and included contributions from Joel of Bagley and other attendees.
Mrs Isobel Nelson marked her 83rd birthday with family and friends gathering in the evening. Attending were Mrs Fred Maurer Fay ette Mrs Ims Al Wilbur Mary and Steven Leo Wolf West Union Jr Nelson Nelson Mr and Mrs Joe Nelson Mrs Theo Loftsgard Mr and Mrs Chas Becker and family Jimmy Nelson Oelswein. Mrs Neilson received many useful gifts.
The Chevrolet Division of General Motors marks its 50 millionth car at the Tarryton North Carolina plant. G H Falb of Falb and Sons Elgin notes Chevrolet’s early years a mere 3000 cars in first full year and 21 million Chevrolets in use worldwide. John Fath and Sons invites all to a 50 Millionth Chevrolet Celebration thanking customers for support and dealership growth.
Card of thanks expresses gratitude for kindnesses, cards, and hospital care. Names include Mr. and Mrs. Russell Goodell, Wm. J. Wolf, Dr. Freed, Palmer Memorial staff, Rev. and Mrs. Collins, and other community members who offered visits and prayers during illness and convalescence.

A Masonic and Eastern Star picnic is scheduled for Tuesday July 9 at the park at 7 pm for all Eastern Stars and Masons and their families. Attendees should bring a covered dish and sandwiches. The committee will provide coffee.
John F. Winkler son of Mr and Mrs Winkler of Harper s Ferry graduated from Canton High School May 28 and left May 30 from Minneapolis aboard a Braniff jet to Lackland Air Force Base Texas where he is now enlisted in the Air Force His address at Lackland is AF 17 858 606 Flight 636 Box 1504.
The Busy Beavers 4H club held a forenoon and afternoon session. The meeting decided on a High Homecoming float featuring the Marion Busy Bees. The program included talks and demonstrations led by members, with Patty Amundson serving as reporter.
Elgin holds homecoming events on August 2 and 3 with community activities and planned celebrations across local venues. Organizers invite alumni residents and students to join the festivities and reunions.
The W S C S circles met on June 20 with Ruth, Nora and Rachel each hosting a circle. Co-hostesses and program leaders were named, and officers were elected for each circle including chairs, co-chairs, and treasurers.
The 25th Miller-Baumgartner reunion took place Sunday June 23 in LaCrosse Wisconsin with many attendees from Wisconsin Iowa Minnesota and Colorado including Harold Schild Nellie Miller Louise Miller Wesley Miller John Miller Beverly Ei ber Ardis Joyce Wheeler Gary Hyde Connie Rob ert Boyle Wendy Becky Debbie Bob Archie Schroeder Ken and Gerald Schneider families and others.
