Clermont Local News Highlights Social Ties and Visits
Mrs. Gilbert Anderson was a caller at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Blarney Larson last Friday. Mrs. Bess Tschantz is the mother of Myrtle Irene born Saturday, June 16. Mrs. Henrich of Wadena cares for them. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Howard of Cedar Falls welcomed a daughter born Thursday, June 14. Esther Hauge is among Clermont people. Mrs. L. L. Carr and her mother, Mrs. N. J. Gardner, attended a P. E. O. lu een meeting in Weion with Mrs. Frank Camp. The Krueger girls performed music and jokes. Larson's band played. Burnell Peterson, Charles Burt and George Rounds went to Chicago for the World's Fair. Burnell visited his father, Ben Peterson, while the others saw relatives. Billy Crowe and William Belschner returned from Des Moines after a pleasant visit with the Des Moines Register. they enjoyed the game between Des Moines and the House of David, featuring donkeys. The convoy rode home hitchhiking and passed five universities en route.

Mr and Mrs Alfred Miller and family with Kneelandes plus Adolph Frederick of Clermont and Peter Meland of Postville drove to Decorah for a picnic. Rita and Danny Rounds, Anna Mary and Richard Crowe and Margaret Crowe attend parochial school at Holy Name church in West Union. session begins Monday and lasts two weeks.

Underground cave opened near Cresco in Iowa
A new underground cavern four miles east of Cresco opened to the public on Sunday. The cave is illuminated by a 110 volt light plant and features a 60 foot waterfall, an underground river, 20 foot stalactites and stalagmites, and a 100 foot ceiling. Cresco Boy Scouts plan explorations for more caverns in the area.

Fayette leaders led by Mayor Swartsey and A B Carter and L B Carter of Elgin traveled to Marion to meet Milwaukee railroad officials on changing the No 11 viaduct crossing at the south edge of Fayette. The county American Legion, with L B Carter as commander, backs a plan to remove the constant traffic danger and ease motorists anger along this Iowa route.

Cattle On Refuge Opened To Relieve Drought Distress
Three hundred lean cattle from farmers south of McGregor were turned onto bush bottom lands of the Mississippi river refuge to graze. The refuge extends from Wabasha Minnesota to Rock Island Illinois and will be temporarily opened to grazing. At Guttenberg Iowa farmers take cattle on barges to refuge islands to escape drought.
