Public notice from Elgin Echo newspaper in Fayette County Iowa dated 1891. Includes postal filing details and act reference March 3 1888 indicating second class mail status for the period.
Miss Hazel Trene Gilbertson and Loren Milford Olson wed in a candlelit ceremony on June 4 with Rev. A Nesset officiating. Music by Signe Hanson featured Lohengrin and Mendelssohn. Attendants wore white net gowns. bouquets of roses and carnations.
Light blue and matching accessories featured in the wedding. The church center aisle held white carnations and garden flowers with white candelabras. A reception followed in the church parlors. The bride wore yellow, orchid and white with a large cake showing a miniature couple. Waitresses included Iva Peterson and others. the bride is a former Elgin High School graduate and Luther College alumna who taught in Winneshiek county rural schools. the groom studied in La Mocere county, N D and now farms. Distant guests listed from North Dakota, South Dakota, Michigan, Ontario, Canada, and Iowa communities.
Brainard residents share a Memorial Day stretch of visits and hosts. Roger Reeder, Diana, and Ed Heins welcomed guests at Clermont. Washington visitors Myron Burnside called on Mary Bartlett and kin in town. Numerous families from West Union Racine Davenport Chicago Cedar Rapids and Davenport joined gatherings at the Mary Bartlett Dan Craft and Ray Gilbert homes.
Meetings of the W. 5S C S Divisional groups are scheduled for Thursday June 17 with hostesses named for Circle Ada Circle Ruth and Circle Ngori. Mrs R A rides with Mrs Ray Chapman assisting hostess Circle Ruth led by Mrs Thos E Howard with Mrs Clifton Wilson assisting.
The Social Hour club met last Wednesday at Mrs. Thos E Howard's home in Elgin with fourteen members and two guests present. Roll call featured a joke. July 4 picnic at Decorah park was decided. Marie Meyer read an article. riddle and song contest won by Alice Kjosa and Marie Meyer. Mabel Gilson assisted, guests included Mrs. Mary Allen and Mrs. Alice Winkler. A lunch was served. August meeting set with Mrs. Louis Becker.
Real estate transfers cite Lloyd Aanez and wife to Lloyd M Aanes and wife for $1.00 describing parcels in 24 95 and surrounding quarters. Andrew Dummermuth and others transfer to William Dummermuth for $1.00 with detailed section descriptions. Marriage licenses list June 3 and June 4 with Bodick and Whitford, Rose and Stolle. Community notices include Olson visiting mother Imholte. Ruth Carpenter leaving for Morningside College dietitian job. various local dinners, visits, and social events in Cedar Rapids, Volga, Fay ette, West Keith Olson, Marion, North Dakota, Elkader, West Union, Guttenberg, and Clermont.
The Lutheran Bible School program at Elgin will close Friday with a noon picnic. Mrs Belva Snyder teaches assisted by Edna Nelson and Doris Hanson. An afternoon program at 1 30 includes scripture Mark 10 13 17, Erna Baumgartner prayer, hymns and choral readings. Families invited to attend.
