Elgin Opens Season With Win Over Calmar 10 to 4
Elgin defeated Calmar 10 to 4 in the season opener at Calmar's home grounds. New players from the high school squad impressed with sharp play and base running while Herrling led a strong defensive effort for Wadena as the third sacker. Gehring started on the mound, leaving after five innings with arm fatigue before Frank Kiple finished the game. Calmar fielded largely the same lineup as last year, with three new men adding potential for a stronger side later. A full season schedule will be published in a forthcoming Echo.
