Funeral services were held May 31 for Ole Martin Blockhus 72 son of Carl and Karl Walvatne Blockhus born near Clermont June 1 1888 died May 28 1963 at Veterans Hospital Iowa City where he had been a patient since February 27 He married Thorson Susan Brandt October 16 1920 He was a WWI veteran in the Quartermaster Corps a member of the Elgin Legion and of the Veterans of WW He is survived by one brother Michael of Elgin three sisters Eyama Marie Clara and others all of Wis Osage and surrounding towns Burial was in East Clermont Cemetery Services were conducted by Pastor Dennis Gruteud and Pastor Harlan Blockhus nephew of the deceased Pallbearers were six WWI veterans The funeral drew attendees from Blooming Prairie Osage Decorah Postville West Union Monona Viola Ossian and Claymont.
The Elgin Legion Auxiliary Unit met May 16 at 2 p.m. with a silent auction for an extra project. Twenty seven members answered roll call as a musical group from Valley High performed and a report on the athletic supper noted 260 tickets sold and 108 guests attended. The unit voted to sell pop.
Sunnydale Club held its May meeting with host Mrs. Lydia Odegard presiding. Members answered the roll call and noted the program titled Home Sweet Home. Mrs. LaVerne Larson served as president and Mrs. Otto Bieck was secretary.
A post-nuptial shower for Sandra Anderson featured a duet by Sandra and another performer, lively games and contests, and the bride opening her gifts. Hostesses with help from their mothers arranged a luncheon following the presents.
