Pre-Platform Sessions Hearings Advance State Platforms
Republicans and Democrats hold pre-platform hearings to draft preliminary platforms for their state conventions. Testimony urged increased funding for higher education with estimates of at least 10 million dollars annually for new buildings and future enrollments. The Iowa League of Municipalities seeks a city state study commission, while debating road fund shares. The Kerr Mills Act gains support from the Town Medical Society with possible 4.2 million state appropriations and federal matches. League of Women Voters criticizes the Shaft Reapportionment bill, which would redraw the State Senate every ten years and faces 1983 legislative action.
