Miss Janice Karlsbroten wed Cpl George Christen at the First Lutheran Church in Waterloo on Saturday July 5. Rev Bruno Schladen hausen officiated as guests from Elgin including Mrs Christen and Dale Jensen attended the couple who will return to Elgin then report to Camp Sheridan for further assignment.
Rates for ads include ten cents per line with a minimum weekly charge of 30 cents if paid with cash. otherwise the minimum is 50 cents. Blind ads or inquiries to this office cost 6 cents per week. Cards of Thanks and En Memoriam cards cost 1.00, limited to 10 lines. Resolutions of respect and obituaries fall under regular advertising rates.

Miss Joan Schultz daughter of Mr and Mrs Harvey Schultz of Postville wed Clarence B Moore son of Mr and Mrs Emil Moore of Elgin in a carriage ceremony at St Pauls Lutheran Church Postville The church featured aqua and white decor with mixed flower bouquets Rev F R Ludwig officiated organist Mrs F R Ludwig accompanied soloist Mrs Jack Schultz who sang Because and The Lords Prayer The bride wore a white chapel length gown with lace bodice scalloped neckline nylon net yoke and long sleeves She carried pink roses centered with a white bouquet and wore a single strand of pearls and matching earrings given by the groom.
Eight Fayette county men were listed for induction on July B in iWest Union. The group includes Daryl Rubens Donald Franks Chas Conner and Leslie Popenhagen, all from Fayette, plus Roger Meska Frank Smith from Oelwein Ronald Rohrig from Sumner and Wm Strudthoff from Hawkeye.
Harry R. Keiser, 19, son of Dr and Mrs H R Keiser of Chicago, won the Chicago Tribune ever medal for top military and scholastic score at Northwestern University. He serves in the Air Force ROTC unit SS Fa Basy Bees. In the Mediterranean, sailors aboard the destroyer USS Melvin guard carriers and submarines, including Herman L Capper, machinist's mate third class USN, son of Norris D Capper of Elgin, as the Melvin visits ports such as Athens Oran Gibraltar Istanbul Cannes Golfe Juan St Jean Naples and Beirut. Leonard M West called home from San Diego, son on USS Nereus Sub Tender. Capt Gerald Schori and wife from Baltimore arrived in Elgin to visit. he served in Japan two years and will be stationed at Mineral Wells Texas.
