The Elgin Echo is a weekly newspaper from Elgin Iowa published every Wednesday by Bermen and Bartunek. It is entered as second class mail matter September 1 1891 at the Elgin post office under the act of March 3 1852.
Leo Robert Dennler born May 11 1928 in Elgin Iowa married Mary Gooden August 17 1950. They had two children James and Linda and lived in Elgin most of his life working as a farm employee and other jobs. He died July 7 at Postville Community Hospital aged 36 and was buried in Elgin Cemetery. Pallbearers listed. Survivors include wife two daughters son mother stepfather brother and extended relatives. George Francis Boyle born April 6 1903 in Elgin to Frank and Mamie Boyle died June 30 at University Hospitals Iowa City. Funeral held July 3 at St Peters Catholic Church Clermont with Rev Joseph Sullivan officiating. Muehlethaler Funeral Home directed. Pallbearers Doyle Baker Alan Anderson Roland Gruver Milton Miller Lawrence Gehring Sr Leo Falk. Burial at ILyriacemetery. Married Ruth Lyon January 17.

The Social Hour Club met at Mrs. Herbert Ash's home on June 7 with 15 members and three guests Mrs. Howard Medberry Mrs. Emma Holzer and Mrs. Melbert Baechler present. They discussed a club trip to Feribault Minnesota in October and planned a July picnic for July 16 at 6 30 p m at Mrs. Marjorie Reed's home with members bringing their own roasting stick and supplies.
Mrs Jot Kiem and Mrs Don Littl read a poem titled Niom and Pop's Ss Ament Dane. two articles were read aloud and served in the session.
A social evening is planned Sunday for Stanley Lehman of Texas and Alvin Lehman of Arizona, visiting home at Far Burrow, Muehiethaler. Cathryn Crowe of Clermont is also invited to join the event.
Mr and Mrs Lawrence Knudtson and Marcia vacationed in Northern Michigan from July 2 to July 7 they crossed the Mackinac Bridge five miles long visited Mackinac Island and the locks at Sault Ste Marie on their trip
Janson Jr invites relatives to a Halverson family reunion at home in Luana on Sunday July 2. Expected gathering includes extended family members and sharing of memories.
The gathering at Hikader fair grounds Shelter House featured Mrs Theolina Nelson of Osage as the oldest attendee and seven week old Donne Reed daughter of Mr and Mrs Alfred Reed of Prairie du Chien Wisconsin as the youngest. Over 100 people attended including numerous families from Osage Lyle Minn Plymouth Marion Pontiac Postville and Far.
