Jan 21 Echo files recall a 1926 Elgin dairy feeding and management school led by Burt Odekirk with Iowa dairy extension input. Reports cover Elgin Savings Bank annual meeting, birthdays, accidents at school, a coast mishap, and the ice harvest finishing as Elgin Community Club held a Friday night gathering.
Dozen members discussed bills and the municipal park question. Chairman Thoma appointed a committee to present the proposition to the town council. Rev Star proposed sponsoring a boy scout movement. The band issue was raised and organizers were assigned. Mr and Mrs Wm Sutter hosted a large gathering to honor Mrs Elmer Bunter as she prepared to depart for Roanoke Illinois.
Asbjorn Olsen, born Kristiania 1883, emigrated to America in 1909, settled near Elgin and later McGregor. He married Anna Ostegard in 1913, had a son Olaf, a grandson Errol, and several siblings in Norway. He died January 5, 1951, after a final illness, with funeral services held January 7 at Pilkington parlors. Corn prices may rise. fertilizer shortages expected. a year’s feed costs about 3.50 to 5.00 per ton.

The Illyria Handy Hands 4H club met January 13 at the Ogle home. President Janice Shaffer presided as ten members attended. They voted to send 3.00 to Youth Exchange. Lois Medberry presented an article on the United Nations. Mary Dinan spoke on Buying Cosmetics and Sara Ogle on Skin Care.
Pleasant Valley Idlenots met January 6 at Barbara Medberry's home. Six members answered roll call. They planned a gathered skirt and voted a skating party for January 20. Program included United Nations by Mrs Medberry, Growing care by Reva Medberry, Buying Cotton Materials by Grace Gehring, Reading Your Labels by Eunice Gehring. Next meeting set for February 3. Mastitis prevention noted, winter housing raises infection risk. cramped stalls and injuries raise udder problems. poor bedding and damp cold stalls worsen conditions.
