A spoof parade of crackpot definitions and cartoons from Rich's antics reels satire about religion officers jokes and a funeral joke. It includes a camp scene with rival regiments debating baptisms and a dead monkey left for the undertaker. It ends with a final nudge to readers, “Tell ’em you saw it in the Echo.”
Thomas Kimpston born in Ontario April 4 1865 moved to Iowa at age four. He farmed in Myria township and helped build the Myria Community church. He resided in Sigin since 1909 and died December 30 at home aged 84. Funeral at St Pauls Methodist with burial in Illyria cemetery. Card of Thanks from Richard Gehring and Arleta Howard.
Mrs Anna Hunsberger died at home in West Elgin January 4. Survived by two sisters in law Mrs Wm Gruer and Mrs Ida Baldwin and Mrs C Yost of Pearland Texas sent news of a severe blizzard near Houston. A daughter born December 23 at Henry Feller home and a nine pound daughter at the Dan Sutter home January 6. Mr and Mrs Wm Sutter return from two weeks honeymoon plans for rooms above Citizens State Bank. Ellen and Henry Hanson celebrated New Years with Wesley Miller of Clermont. Year end sale at Kohlers with 10 lbs sugar 75c figs bars 12c per tb salmon 18c can and 25 percent off blankets and more.
Cattle movements show a 35 percent year over year rise in calves sent to Iowa farms since July, with overall feeder cattle numbers nationwide holding steady or edging higher. November saw slowed buying in the Corn Belt yet a fall peak in feeder cattle shipments occurred despite a heavy storm and October winds.
Mrs Dora Emily Conner Boyle daughter of Isaac and Emily Conner born June 33 1875 on Elgin farm now Arthur Chapman property died Dec 25 1940 at West Union hospital aged 74. Survivor list includes three children Sheldon Boyle Marie Kohls and Howard Boyle and many grandchildren great grandchildren and relatives. Funeral at St Peter's Clermont with Rev Robert Cooney officiating. pallbearers include nephews Reuben Howard Merle Fox Niles Hogan Reynold Ghaffer Isaac Monnahan Harold Conner.
