A long list of Elgin area residents hosted and visited during the Christmas season. Names include Schupbachs, Frieden, Kruegers, Medberrys, Klingmans, Meisners, Wengers, and many others from Clinton to Clermont and Cedar Rapids. Attendees shared dinners, pre Christmas suppers, and New Year visits, with travel to St Paul and Grand Rapids noted.
Advertising rates per line and per week, including 10 cent Want Ad rates with minimum charges. Card of Thanks and Merorium Cards priced at $1.00. Notice restrictions apply to limited lines, with extra lines at per-line cost. Subscriptions priced at $2.50 yearly within Iowa counties, higher for outside territory and beta series.
The report lists recent visitors and social gatherings around Postville including Roy Knight home visits, and supper guests of Vernon Knight, Guernsey Smith, and Harry Olesen in West Union. It notes calls on Inez Shaffer, holiday exchanges by Forrest Shaffer and Robert, Ruby Shaffer from Cedar Rapids, and other local families from Volga Sycamore and Vin Lees during late December.
Card of Thanks expresses gratitude to relatives and friends for gifts letters and Christmas cards during illness with sincere appreciation. Also thanks for cards and flowers sent while in hospital.
