Legislative News Current Comment in 47th General Assembly
With about 50 days left in the 47th Iowa General Assembly, observers credit both Lieut. Gov Valentine and Speaker LaMar Foster with effective, fair leadership. The House shows a 54-54 party tie after seven weeks, with nine contest verdicts leaving the seat line unchanged. Details include names of seated members from various counties and party affiliations amid the contests. The large Motor Vehicle Revision bill, the largest yet filed, would create a separate motor vehicle department, add a highway patrol, set speed limits, raise driver permits, and emphasize school bus safety under Senate committee leadership led by Senator Beardsley. Gov Kraschel’s farm-to-market road project is noted on continued pages.
