Letter From California Describes Sunny Sojourn in 1996
A San Fernando correspondent writes of warm California weather, cheap living, and homey details. The letter recalls Long Beach visits, Catalina Island, and Los Angeles sights including Aimee Semple McPherson’s temple. The writer notes fruit trees, oranges for breakfast, and steady work in a thrifty town of about 14,000. The piece mentions seeing Bing Crosby and other stars, plus a thrice-remembered military ball in that Legion hall.
