In a Friday night at the Clermont high school gym Elgin girls fell 12 to 10 to local foes while the Clermont boys were overwhelmed 23 to 5. Nearby residents like Mrs. Alex Baumgartner and A M Weibel bought homes and a Quaker Oats recommended mill drew interest.
Commercial meat output in Towa for 1950 reached 2 425 758 000 pounds up from 1949 by a percent. Beef up 3 percent pork up 8 percent while mutton and lamb down 1 percent veal down 23 percent. Includes federally inspected and other wholesale plants and retail plants.
Farm Bureau board members and wives will host a two day open house February 23 and 24 from 9 30 a m to 4 30 p m in the new Farm Bureau building. Guides will show visitors while wives serve lunch in the basement. Invitations go to surrounding counties College officials Iowa Farm Bureau staff reporters and radio reps with souvenir postcard pictures of the building. Public invited.

Frank Barnhouse was an overnight guest Sunday of Clem Meyer, and Reuben Howard hosted guests including Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Heins, Pearl Peters, and Colleen Howard at the Robert Kerr home. The Wm Cheney family spent Sunday with the J. W. Murphy family in Gelwein. Thos and Robert Kerr were guests Sunday at Reuben Light’s in Waterloo.

Iowa likely to adopt an appointive state superintendent plan in this session. Proposals from the Iowa State Education Association and the State Department of Public Instruction call for a nine member board to name the chief state school officer. Eight members would be chosen through congressional district conventions and one member at large would be named by the governor.
Bill Costello of CBS Far Eastern News Bureau will lecture at Upper Town University in Fayette February 15 at 8 15 p.m. The CBS broadcaster warned that Asia's danger and importance are often underappreciated and noted his recent return from Korea.

A separate fatal fire in Mon damin claimed lives of A. Peasley and his daughter after a bottle of kerosene spilled in the living room. Mrs. Peasley survived. January brought a rough Lakota business district month with two fires nine days apart causing about unspecified damage.
