Great Central Tobacco Factory Sold to Traer Firm
The Great Central Tobacco and Cigar Factory at Bigin Iowa is sold to Mr Stepanek of Traer and Joseph Burianek of Elgin, effective April first. L J Palda plans retirement and relocation to Cedar Rapids with his family. The new firm Burianek and Stepanek may stay in Elgin if merchants support them. The sale prompts calls for local patronage to sustain the industry and preserve Elgin’s reputation. Also noted is a change at Elgin Roller Mills with L Y Ehrlich departing and F D Lawrence taking over, while Ehrlich seeks milling work elsewhere.
