Skunks Hit by Rabies Across Iowa Counties

Six rabid skunk cases were reported in Clayton County in 185¢ and one in Fayette County. North and south counties had none. Statewide totals reached 305 cases with 157 in skunks, 44 in dogs, 31 in cats, 5 in cattle, 5 in foxes, and four other scattered cases.

Annual Meeting of Breeders Association in Payette County

The Payette County Co operative Breeding Association held its annual meeting at the Farm Bureau building on January 25. Isaac Paul and A Porter were elected to three year terms. Speakers included Dr John Berrick extension veterinarian at Iowa State, Melvin Wangsess county extension director, and Dr J W Pirie and Dave Van de Berg of the Cedar Rapids based Artificial Breeding group. Finances showed breeding price changes effective February 1 and a 1954 business dividend of $2315 to members.

Progress Club Meeting Notes and February Report

The Progress Club met Monday February 7 at Mrs Benry McMillans home. Twenty members answered roll call with a current event. Dalene Shaffer and Evelyn Orth presented declamatory selections. Mrs Robert D Wilson reported on women's clubs in other lands. Mire Gus Krueger reported on the Iowa Club Worker. Mrs Lorence Mueklethaler and Elmer Meyer spoke on textile paintings and basket weaving crafts class at Fayette. The next meeting will be March 1 with a dinner for the husbands.

Iowa farm prices rise in mid January index up 1 percent

The January 15 1960 index shows prices received by Iowa farmers at 241 percent of the 1910-14 base, up 3 points for the month but 15 percent below the January 1959 level. Livestock and livestock products rose 3 points to 55, while dairy and poultry categories showed modest gains and milk wholesale declined.

Social Hour Club February Celebration and March Meeting Plan

Roll call for the Social Hour Club earned 17 members and two guests a focus on a Savorite February Birthday. Mrs Randolph Reier joined, and Mrs Virgil Torson along with Mrs Melbert Meyer led lessons on care for the sick at home. A Valentine exchange ended with a bingo session. The March meeting is set for Mrs Louis Becker's home.

Casey Driver Kills Bog in Highway Collision

Bob Ferguson of Casey collided with a bog on a nearby highway in a recent incident. The bog sustained fatal injuries. About $198 in damage was caused to the automobile. Lamb bones are noted as making nourishing broths and soups.
