Acreage in Conservation Reserve for 1961 Declared
A total of 8291 acres in Fayette county cropland will stay out of production under conservation reserve contracts in 1961. The land remains inside the reserve for the contract lifetimes and cannot be cropped or grazed. Participants receive an annual fall rental payment and can idle land after contract expiration for twice the years under contract without reducing future acreage allotments. A new law, effective last fall, aims to keep former allotment crop acreage vegetative longer. Nationwide, contracts expire on about 90,000 acres by end of 1980, leaving about 28.6 million acres in the reserve in 161.
