Elgin Iowa officials approved a resolution directing fabrication of notice filing plat and schedule. Council members Klingman Wilson and Mayor pro tem Lorence Muehiethaler oversee adoption and salary raise for town clerk to 100 dollars monthly for six months. next meeting set January 4, 1961. assessment notices prepared for mailing.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Ole Embretson Eikaler at Norway Lutheran Church near St Olaf with Rev Henry J Mathre presiding. Burial followed in the Norway Lutheran cemetery. She was born Aug 9 1965 in Forest City and died Dec 17 1960 in Prairie du Chien after a two week illness. She married Ole Embretson May 27 1908 and they farmed in Wagner township before moving to Elkader. She celebrated a golden wedding anniversary May 27 1968 and was active in church affairs. Survived by her husband, daughter Mrs Ragna Butikofer, one brother Otis Nyhus and four grandchildren.
The Elgin Iowa town council met in a special pension at the town hall at 10:00 am with Mayee Schori and Councilmen Capper Klingman and Wilson pres ent. Absent were Councilmen Muehlethaler and Mulford. The council adopted two resolutions related to sewage treatment plant and facilities and work with plat and schedule of assessments after unanimous roll calls.
Marion Busy Bees answered roll call with the question What is your favorite after school smack at Marie Frederick's home. Members were asked to bring 25 cents and 4-H dues. Genevieve Christen demonstrated muffin making while Wanda Hofer and Diane Wenger led a hamburger broiling demo. Doriene Hofer and Dorothy Meisner spoke on quick meals and great salad. The Christmas party is set for December 21 with 12 members and 12 guests, lunch by Mrs William Frederick.
James Kennedy of Wadena died of a heart attack on Thursday December 16 at the home of his daughter Mrs Ivan Flower in Arlington. Born October 5 1882 in Wadena, he was the son of John J Kennedy and his wife. He married Mary Ellen Raftis.
Funeral services for James Kennedy were held at St Joseph's Catholic church in Wadena on December 19. Surviving descendants include two sons Pierre Kennedy of Florida and Dr Richard Kennedy of Des Moines, and three daughters Rita Irene and Mary with spouses. eight grandchildren. He worked for Fayette Co. Highway Dept. most of his life, retired 1944. Burial in St Joseph's cemetery. Pallbearers listed. Rev. Duane Raftis assisted.
At East Clermont Lutheran Church on December 17 Diane Frieden hosted Busy Beavers and Marion Happy Bustiers. Two girls attended as Bonita Kjosa led the clubs in Christmas carols. The program included talks Weight watching by L Myre Anderson and Cold Facts on Cold Cash by
Elgin local news notes social visits with Mr. and Mrs. George Hanson hosting Bernard Hanson family for dinner. Dinners and suppers are reported for the Hanson, Halverson, Pinney, Koester, and Adrian families across Cedar Rapids Ames West Union Garnaville Clermont Waterloo Winthrop and West Union with guests from Dec 27 weekend and past week.
Local families and friends shared holiday meals across Cedar Falls, Oelwein, Waterloo, and nearby towns. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Milton Voelker of Reinbeck, Mrs. Otto Blockhus, Mrs. Matilda Feller visiting San Antonio before return, and numerous relatives from Cedar Rapids, West Union, Om aha, Des Moines, and Guttenberg. Several relatives traveled or returned from hospital and trips to Florida and Minnesota.
