Official notice announces a hearing at 2 30 p m on January 12, 1956 in the Larrebee School Building Clermont Iowa. It concerns proposed plans and contract for a new High School Building with total estimated cost not to exceed 470000 dollars. Objections may be filed at the hearing or by interested persons. Sealed proposals for erection and completion of a new Clermont Iowa High School will be received by the Clermont Elgin Consolidated School District at 2:00 PM January 12, 1936. Bids on general construction plumbing heating and ventilating and electric wiring are to be delivered to the Secretary in sealed envelopes. Contracts documents available from Karl Keffer Associates in Des Moines after December 20 1955. The district may reject bids and will give Iowa produced goods preference. Bids cannot be withdrawn for 20 days after closing.
Pvt. Bob Peters returns from San Diego on 10 day leave and reunites with Joe Peters and family in Waterloo. Lyle Pritchard arrives from Germany for holiday leave. others including Stanley Boyer and Bob Peters plan return visits. Neighbors gather for dinners, games, and a Ladies Aid Christmas party with gift exchange at the Reeder and Gehring homes.
John Kappel aged 67 and longtime custodian of the Fayette county courthouse died Saturday afternoon from a heart attack while placing new license plates on his car. He is survived by his widow, a brother and a sister.
Two West Union youths stole 40 mink pelts valued at 1000 dollars from Lohr fur farm last Monday night. They tried selling them in Minneapolis the next day and were arrested. A fur buyer recognized the pelts as farm raised and noted the need to know the licensed origin. Lohr calls it his first robbery in 25 years in business.
