He is confined to a hospital with smallpox while his accuser Michael Levish reportedly poisoned himself in Chicago after resigning. A U S Fidelity Guaranty Company representative arrived to investigate.
Relatives of Mrs. McKinley express little hope for her recovery as Lieut. James McKinley, a nephew of the late president, reports no change in her condition since the president’s funeral. He added that Mrs. McKinley in Canton remains about the same, with no improvement and no sign of hope.
Dec 18 report: Caldwell of Ashby named sheriff by the communal gloners to succeed Nash who resigned. A large field of candidates and fifty one ballots were cast before an election yielded a result.
About eight thousand people in Vienna rioted seeking bread and work yesterday. Police dispersed the crowd. sixteen rioters were insured.

In Dodge Center Minnesota on December 17 early Saturday morning Dr J A Garver went to the fireplace to replenish the fire. He wore night clothes and brushing the gown skirt against the flames caused it to ignite. He suffered severe burns and died later. Dr Graves and his wife have lived in the county for over forty years. His widow is described as enfeebled and shaken by the tragedy.
In a col elon eight miles east of Jamestown North Dakota engineer John Boyle had his eyes broken in two places and engineer Sam Richard thought to be internally injured. Several crewmen were slightly hurt as both engines were wrecked. The thermometer stood 30 below zero making care difficult for the injured.
An addition to coat 3000 dollars is being made to the prathouse in expectation of a further spread of smallpox in the county. Thirty patients were recently confined at the detention hospital and the plec was overcrowded.

Billings Montana December 17 J A Philippe a well known sheepman left for Willow Forty Five miles away with two herders and a report states all three were frozen to death en route.
Stevens Point Wisconsin December 18 Alexander Kirk quarantined with smallpox became delirious Friday night. He left Amherst wearing only stockings and a coat and hat, collapsed in the cold. His wife tried to restrain him but failed. Search followed. Saturday afternoon his body was found in woods three miles from home.
Mrs Myrtle Phumsay a 2 mile driver north of the city was nearly burned yesterday morning when a lantern she held between her feet exploded. Her clothing caught fire and burned her blankets and wraps. She threw burning clothes into Wolf Creek and extinguished the flames. She continues to make trips despite the storm delaying the stage arrival today.
Perry Wisconsin December 18 19 century report says the general store of Romest Towne at Jamo near here was burglarized Saturday night. Four citizens pursued robbers two groups met on a crossroads and exchanged fire. Towne King and Parmenter were shot none expected to be fatal. fifty seven shots removed from Parmenter. burglars escaped.
Proceedings began to compel continued operation of the Washburn Bayfield and Tron River railroad in Washburn Wisconsin. A mandamus from the circuit court orders tearing up and sale by a United States court. The line had announced an immediate halt, amid strong public feeling after the county issued $183,000 in bonds to aid the road.
Waterloo Iowa Dec 18 The first divorce in this county where a wife is charged with habitual drunkenness is before the clerk. F H Courtright asks separation from wife Sadie M they run a restaurant on Commercial street married 1894 the husband states she has used liquor throughout the marriage.
Hillstoro N D Dec 18 John Vic a well known business man and Elk member aged about 40 was found dead in his room just before 6 pm yesterday. Cause believed to be an apoplectic stroke. He was unmarried and his parents live in Pinland.
David Moritz was acquitted in district court of charging him with criminal assault on Lut Correll, ten year old daughter of Franty Correll, in Le Mars Iowa this May. The affair stirred local families and caused a public stir.
Officials of the Germania Live Stock Insurance Company of Sioux City, whose charter was revoked by the state Insurance Commissioner over alleged practices, have disappeared and the federal court has asked to appoint a receiver for the company.
