An engagement from Elgin announces DeSart and Mrs Derry Leonhart as the couple. The groom is a sophomore at Iowa State University and a member of Beta Sigma. The couple plans a Cedar Rapids ceremony.
The American Legion Auxiliary of Klein unit met at the Legion Hall on November 21. Regular meeting hostesses and Community Club hostesses for the coming year were appointed, listing monthly pairs and reserve lists for both groups.
Charles Holzer born December 11 1879 died November 1967 at Postville Hospital at 57. He worked as bricklayer plasterer and mason, shaping many Elgin area structures. He lived with sister Mary Allen since 1996 and earlier at the parental home. Funeral Tuesday November 28 at Muehlethaler Funeral Home. burial Elgin Cemetery with Rev. Lee Roy Collins officiating. Card of thanks from Mary Allen expresses gratitude to neighbors and Rev. Collins.
The Tertia Club met December 4 at Mrs Leon ard Heins home with Mrs Harry Eog erett assisting. Members sang Silent Night and Christmas carols, answered roll call with 14 members, reports on the Manchester district convention by Mrs Bill Dummermuth and Mrs Harry Everett, a Christmas poem by Mrs Russell Wenger, gift exchange, club collect and penny march. Laneh was served by the hostesses.
The Elgin Lutherans senior choir led worship at Good Samaritan Homes in West Union Sunday afternoon. Attendees included the Francis Butikofer family, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Paulsen, Ben Hunsberger, Mrs. Floyd Thomp and family, Joan Qodegard, Mrs. Edwin Loftsgard, Janice Hagelie, Mrs. Don Sutter, Pastor Denny Brakes, and Mrs. William Moore.
The Switch Street Birthday Club met November 29 at the home of Mrs Lou Dennler with Mrs Joe Hogan as co hostess Guests included Mdims Thomas Pollock Francis Butikofer Agnes Gilson Don Gardner David Gene Schori Russell Friederich Karen Otis Torkelson Anna Schupbach Fay Steger John Mary and Georgia Mae Schori.
The Sunny Dale Club met at Mrs. Helen Blockhus home on Tuesday November 26 with devotions led by Mrs Blockhus. readings included Thanksgiving and Autumn Inspiration by Mrs Ernest Gulsvig. Aging Gracefully Be Attitudes for friends of the aged were read by Mrs LaVerne Larson. Mrs Bernard Hanson reviewed Life on the Farm in the United States and Rag Rag by Martha Reishus plus household hints. 18 ladies and four children attended and plans were made for an event hosted by Mrs Otta Blockhus on December 12.
A bridal shower for Nancy Svezoda bride elect of Allan Friederich of Cedar Rapids was held Sunday at Elgin Lutheran Church. Hostesses included multiple local ladies. attendees listed with Cedar Rapids and Cedar Falls ties. Several guests and a number sending gifts were noted.
