Cecil Klingman and Lucian Donlon remarried December 4, honeymooning in Houston then to Donlon farm. Ray Herwig lost barn and livestock in a Sunday fire. John Falk & Sons Chevrolet earned a silver roving cup for best November sales in northeast Iowa. Elgin Farmers Dairy directors report few changes and farmers listed for hauling duties this year.
Albert Stoffregen notes two routes undetermined for future decisions. M.E. Ladies' Aid reports one of the most successful bazaars in church history clearing about 136 dollars. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Frieden plan to move this month to a G. E. Medberry farm. Betty Kohler hosted the Loyal Workers of the M.E. Rock Valley residents have begun using dial telephones after a full switch over completed last week. A coin picker malfunction led to a fatality near Defiance in late November. Mike Nallen, 54, died at Manning hospital from injuries suffered the prior day. A Maquoketa girl, Sandra Burkhead, 8, started first grade after years in hospitals and wheelchairs. Mrs Elizabeth Schlesselman and daughter Glorene manage a Poweshiek county 200 acre farm since Mr Schlesselman’s illness. Mrs Charles D Peret fined one dollar in Osceola traffic court. her husband is may or Charles D Peret.
Elgin Library announces new acquisitions across grades from Kindergarten to Junior High. Notable titles include The Happy Day by Ruth Krauss Frisky the Goat by Edith Osswald Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey and The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling among others. A few adult books will arrive in a few days.
