The writer argues reduced waste, especially burning paper, supports workers and a broader war effort, urging community cooperation and a focus on safety and efficiency.

Mrs Pearl May Fluegel of Charles City formerly Junior Past Grand Matron of the Iowa Grand Chapter O E S died Sunday night in Charles City after a 24 hour illness. She was an only child and her Lt Virgil Fluegel son serves in the U S Army in the South Pacific.
The Echo reports to the ODT office at Mason City that truckers need not use CWN-17 forms. Mr. Eslick states the department no longer furnishes or prints new forms. Drivers must maintain records as before, in any convenient form providing all required information.
Hawkeye players report 90 strong, the largest football squad in University of Iowa history. Now in week two under coach Slip Madigan, most players are from Iowa and about half are 17 years old. Five letter men are practicing and two potential additions may join later.
Engineers who surveyed a thirteen mile tunnel under the Continental divide achieved near perfect accuracy as boring from both ends finished with a misalignment of only a fraction of an inch. The feat showcased U. S. engineering precision and skill.
