The Elgin Echo is issued weekly by Bermen and Bartunek. It lists a post office entrance as second class mail matter dated September 1, 1891, at Elgin Fayette County, Iowa, under act of March 3, 352.
Veterans of WW I and Auxiliary held a 12:30 pm picnic at the Elgin Legion hall with forty attending. Mrs Kat Kiple presided over the Auxiliary, $5 donated for the Knoxville Veterans Hospital gift shop, new member Mrs M J Blockhus. Next meeting is the second Sunday in September. second district gathering August 25 at the Veterans club in Waukon with 12:30 pm picnic.
A July 28 wedding reception for Mr. and Mrs. Roland McNally was held in the Luana bank party room. Hosts included Mr. and Mrs. Orville Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Martins, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Olson, and Mr. and Mrs. Milo Jacobin. Prizes were awarded in 500, with high to Mrs. Harley Radloff Sr. and Guy Deitz, low to Mrs. Maurice Landsgerd and Glenn Bente, traveling to Mrs. VerDean Radloff and Marvin Thomas. lunch followed, cake by Mrs. Harvey Schultz cut and served by Mrs. Herold Meisner and Mrs. Louis.
The wedding of July 7 near Strawberry Point united McNally and Kuehl families with a large Postville Luana Elgin and Fayette guest list. The bridegroom works for Concrete Materials in Cedar Rapids and the couple will reside in Lisbon.
Mr and Mrs Ronald Lofts gard and Mr and Mrs Glen Nims and Shelvy Clermont returned home Tuesday August 13 from a trip through the SW states. They visited Mexico White Sands New Mexico Disney Land Los Angeles Las Vegas Grand Canyon Hoover Dam Boulder City Pikes Peak Colorado Springs Colorado.
Allen P. Schantz of Mountain Valley High School Saguache Colorado is named one of four Western Colorado 11th grade science students chosen to compete for an all expense paid trip to the 1963 National Youth Conference on the Atom in Chicago November 7 to 9. Sponsored by Public Service Co of Colorado he is son of Mr and Mrs A D Schantz Ethel Rennison. He also serves as associate pastor and state president for Pioneers for Christ and is a French horn musician and CBY of Arizona Instrumental contest winner. He developed a theory for a new method of producing electricity.
Mr and Mrs Marvin Perry and family of Manchester returned home from a Minnesota vacation Saturday. They spent Saturday evening in the Ed Boleyn home. Mary Hofer returned to Manchester with the Perrys where she is employed.
The Good Neighbors Club met August 13 at the Methodist Church dining hall with hostesses Roscoe Larson Robert Leuchtenmacher and Earl Lembke. Seventeen members and eight guests answered roll call with a pet peeve. A gift was given for a new son. Readings included The Bridge You Will Never Cross and God. Several members visited others in the area and many attendees were named in social notes from the gathering and surrounding days.
Saturday wedding unites Anderson and Don Koenig. Visitors from Dubuque and Wadena attend at Ed Boleyn residence. The note outlines pupil accident insurance with premiums and enrollment, school lunch prices, book rental, and the first day schedule including no Labor Day classes.
Pupils will transfer between bus routes as Valley Community Schools reorganizes for 1963 64. Kindergarten to sixth grade move to Yearous and Ogle buses. grades seven to twelve shift to Yearous or Sniffin routes. Sniffin route extends from Wadena to multiple farms including Schneider, Burns, Shaffer, Thompson, Kruempel, Larson, Erickson, and Jennings. Kenton Krueger combines Kleppe and Howard last year routes out of Elgin toward Brainard and back. Kindergarten lists for Valley share names across Clermont Elgin with extensive pupil rosters.
