From a town committee to new industry boom
A Chamber of Commerce committee on new industries, described as ineffectual and pessimistic, was dismissed and replaced within two weeks. ES deposited 100000 dollars in a bank, buying out two bankrupts and paying the pessimists to leave. A new industry promptly arrived. The piece also notes rising bank robbery insurance rates across several states, hints at a state constabulary, a proposed postage increase, cautions about trading chickens for subscriptions, a Parisian actress arrested for nude performances, a lightning death of a horse near Elgin, and declining cream receipts with forecast recovery.
